Why is Dermaplaning so Popular?

If you’ve never heard or experienced Dermaplaning, you are missing out! Dermaplaning is the hottest non-abrasive, non-ablative mechanical treatment to exfoliate your skin on the market right now. This treatment exfoliates your skin by using a sterile scalpel to remove the top layer of dead skin cells that create dull, sluggish skin. Not only does Dermaplaning remove dead skin, but it also removes the fine vellus hair that covers the entire face leaving your skin silky smooth. But wait, isn’t it true that if you “shave” off the hair, it will grow back thicker and darker? The answer is NO. That is an old wives tell and the only thing that this treatment will do is keep you wanting to come back for more! Hair grows with a naturally tapered point. When you cut off that point, causing the hair to have a blunt end, it appears to be thicker and feel course, but in all reality, it is not. The color and thickness of our hair is caused by genetics. A razor or scalpel will not change that. A benefit of removing this hair helps with a smoother appearance of your face makeup. Now that that’s out of the way, lets get deeper into this amazing treatment.

Exfoliating your skin is one of the most important things you can do other than wearing a daily SPF. Our skin regenerates itself about every 28 days. In order to maintain a glowy, healthy, dewy appearance, we must exfoliate off the dead skin that has accumulated on the surface. Once we have done this, new fresh skin can now soak in those serums and moisturizers that we so desperately need to break through that build up. Dermaplaining is recommended 1-2 times per month due to the hair growth cycles and our natural exfoliation process.

What does this treatment entail? We start off cleansing the face removing any surface residue. We then “prep” the skin dehydrating it for a smooth glide during the actual process. This is usually done with an alcohol/acetone mix or one of our fabulous toners from the lines we carry in house: Rhonda Allison and Glo Skin Beauty. After we have removed any surface oils to prevent the blade from dragging, we start gliding along the face. Clients are usually nervous during this part, but we assure you, there is nothing to worry about. Please, let us know if you need to cough or sneeze for obvious reasons. To most clients surprise, this treatment to exfoliate your skin feels extremely relaxing. It feels as if someone is softly stroking your face. Who doesn’t want to experience that?! Once we’ve removed the surface layer of dead skin and hair, we will start infusing hydrating products back into the skin, which can now penetrate deeper including serums, moisturizers and masks. It is important for these type of products to reach deeper layers of skin to hydrate and plump up those new skin cells. We will ALWAYS finish with an SPF to protect this fresh new skin from further damage. We ask clients to reapply your physical sun protectant to prevent sun burns and sun damage. It is best to stay out of direct sunlight for a day or two after any exfoliation treatment to protect the skin from harmful UV rays.

We have had clients ask if they can just do this at home with a razor and what is the difference. A Dermaplaning treatment takes a skillful steady hand to successfully remove not only the vellus hair, which cannot always be seen looking in your bathroom mirror, but also creating a deeper exfoliation for your skin which cannot be achieved with your everyday razor. More importantly, do you want razor burn on your face?! Didn’t think so. Call Allure Skincare & Lash to schedule this amazing treatment for an instant dewy, younger look by one of our highly trained and skillful Estheticians.
