Allure Skincare & Lash is now offering Denver Vampire Facials. What is it, and what are the benefits?
Kim Kardashian may be famous for nothing, but when it comes to beauty, people follow her every move. In 2015 she posted a photo on her Instagram showing her face covered in her own blood, #VampireFacial. What? Why? That’s disgusting, is probably what most of her followers thought, but then immediately started to Google what it was, and a skin care phenomenon was born.
What is it?
The Denver Vampire Facials, or Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), involves a medical professional, like a nurse or doctor, extracting a couple of very small amount of a patient’s blood from their arm and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma – the fluid part – from the red and white blood cells. A numbing cream is applied to the face, then the concentrated plasma, rich in platelets packed with growth factors, is then injected into the face via Microneedling. Microneedling is a pen type device, embedded with a cluster of sterile, retractable micro needles. This device is pressed all over the face, creating micro injuries. Our skin and body rush to heal those injuries, creating new collagen and elastin.
As scary as this procedure sounds, some people prefer the idea of using their own blood rather than a neurotoxin or synthetic filler to rejuvenate their faces. People report smoother, more plump and youthful skin. Scientists claim that using your own plasma is the future of preventative and corrective aging.
