Reasons to look into Microneedling

Do you have a scar that has caused embarrassment in the past? How about sun spots or discoloration? Microneedling is a procedure that triggers the body’s natural repair process to produce collagen and elastin. This can also be called skin needling or collagen induction therapy.

Microneedling uses a handheld device with a group of fine needles that are moved across the skin to create a controlled micro injury. After the microscopic wound begins to heal, the body starts its natural repair process. The result is a thicker epidermis; improvement in skin texture and firmness; and reduction in acne scars, traumatic scars, wrinkles, pore size, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation (sun spots), alopecia and broken capillaries.

Compared to lasers and chemicals, skin needling is a safer option because it can be performed on all skin types and colors with less risk of hyper/hypo pigmentation or burning. Treatments don’t create a defined line of separation between treated and untreated areas as can occur with other resurfacing procedures. This is so a precise area of scarring can be treated without needing to blend at the edges.

The procedure is well tolerated and usually takes an hour depending on the size of the area. A topical numbing cream is applied before beginning the treatment, for comfort. During the treatment a hyaluronic acid is applied during to help aid in the production of collagen. Healing from the procedure is rapid and there is little down time. Afterward you will notice a flush redness to the skin similar to sunburn. The length of healing time varies on the number of passes and depth of needles. Patients on average will have redness for two to four days, while some individuals heal in 24 hours. The results can be seen as soon as 1 to 2 weeks and for as long as 6 to 8 months.

All ages can benefit from microneedling. It can be used on the face, neck, hands, arms, legs, back, abdomen and buttock.

The benefits of microneedling are continuing to grow and overpower other skin resurfacing options. The bottom line is skin needling is a low cost, simple procedure. It has many advantages including speedy recovery time, minimum damage to the skin and little discomfort. Many of our clients turn to microneedling to help diminish acne scars, scars from piercings, and can even help with dreaded stretch marks. A microneedling package is often recommended for optimum results. We often get frustrated spending money on creams and serums that promise to diminish lines and wrinkles, but microneedling has broken through and delivered on those promises for much less money.
